It's not an uncommon thing, actually. Search 'Volkswagen with Corvette wheels' on Google Images, and you'll get TONS of results.
Golfs, Rabbits, Jettas, Caddys, Corrados, Beetles.
Apparently, it's also common practice with older BMWs, Subarus, Hondas, and even some Volvo bricks.

I swear to god I saw these on a civic 3 weeks ago
If I didn't drive stick, I would've snapped a photo
I was mind-boggled. They must be 3 times the price of the car

A Saturn Ion Redline owner wanted to buy the wheels off of my LT4, and I was all like "You obtain a set of black A-molds to replace them, and then we can trade."

It's even more hilarious when a VDubber grabs the early C4 wheels:
...and then puts them on so they are sweeping such that the front of the car would be on the right-hand side of this photo. This is backwards, they are meant to pull air into the wheel well and help cool the brakes. Even more hilarious still is when they mount them so the sweeps are pointing toward each other front-rear. Saw an R32 owner do this, and when I mentioned it, he just looked at me like I was fuckin' nuts.

I've heard its quite a popular trend. Glad I have wheel locks so no VW-bro can steal mine.

The bolt patterns for the wheels are amazingly close. Same with BMW, the pattern is only like .5mm off or something.

VW bros are getting almost as ridiculous as Civic guy. I have only seen one VW that actually had a bike on the bike rack.

I saw a Tesla Roadster with these on it not too long ago. Because it was stripped to the bare chassis and the wheels, I thought it was a stripped Fiero at first.
